Mountains & Valleys

Wanted to start off by saying welcome to my second official blog post! So glad that you are here!

With life there are always going to be mountains and valleys. There are great advantages with being on the mountain as well as in the valley. With many of the life whether you see it being linear or cyclical there are always highs & lows. As a believer in Jesus Christ, I believe that God sent His son to earth to die for my sins. That is my foundation, Jesus Christ. Because he died at the cost of my sins I know after life here on earth he has given me a choice to have a forever home in heaven. With that being said we still have a life to live while we wait on the return of our Lord. This life is filled with ups and downs, twist and turns that often leave us feeling broken. As the Israelites were travelling through the desert the were really close to getting to the place where they could call home.

Deuteronomy 11:11

But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven.

This particular verse is so deep, but we won’t dive into it too much, I just want to show you an example of how there are treasures and advantages in both mountains and valleys. If you read in the Old Testament, you would see what is foretold in this verse. The Israelites had to do a lot to hold on to the land that they were given.

When looking at an area geographically that has lots of mountains and valleys there is sort of a wave pattern of up & down. When it comes to climbing or hiking on mountains you always start at the bottom of the mountain, and you work your way upwards. This is often the most difficult part of mountain climbing “The uphill climb.” You are using a lot of energy and resources to make that climb. Once you reach the peak you see all that you have worked for. You can see clear across because you are so high up, its very gratifying. Going downwards on the mountain can be difficult as well. Once you’ve reached the bottom of the mountain it is quite amazing.

In the same way spiritually sometimes, we are faced with big mountains, and we want God to just move them for us. Unfortunately, there are some mountains that God wants us to climb. Those tough experiences make you stronger and prepares you for what is next. During the uphill climb we need to depend on Him. Going into prayer, doing devotionals, or worship helps us through those difficult moments. Every mountain has a peak, a high place, or a place of reflection. It could be doors starting to open that had always been closed. The God that we serve loves us abundantly! The type of love that he gives us is so pure and amazing, it is in fact the strongest type of love there is. Now, just because we are climbing these mountains spiritually, doesn’t mean that he isn’t here. He is right beside you and often times carrying you through many of those tough moments on the mountain. Trust in Him and believe that all things can and will be conquered in Jesus name!

There are several types of moments in the valley. It is a safe place, a place where things may be calmer, and a place of protection. Other times the valley might be an all time low place in life. This is where we need God the most! When we hit those low moments and possibly feel like we have been there for long periods of time. Regardless of what you are going through remember our God is always with us. It is up to you to accept His calling out to you. He always has open arms waiting on you to connect with him. Allow your valley to be an opportunity for reflection and gratitude. Turn your focus on God and you can’t fail.

There is always going to be a continuous mountain & valley situation in life, sometimes even at the same time. Don’t think that you can do it alone, it is not meant for you to be alone in this life. When making God the center of your life he will allow you to endure these high & lows. No one ever said that life was going to be easy. We all are a testament to that. I will say that God has sent a promise to us through Jesus Christ. Who wants to endure these high mountains, and low valleys alone? Not me!

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight
